Time & Talents was recently awarded a grant from the Chambers Wharf Community Enhancement Fund. The fund was established to benefit community directly affected by Tideway’s construction work at Chambers Wharf.
What is the Chambers Wharf Community Enhancement Fund grant for?
The grant is for a project entitled Bermondsey Free ‘Shops’ and Support. This project enables Time & Talents to give free spaces to community groups who directly help people save money or learn new things.
The ‘shops’ will consist of services providing entirely FREE material and practical support to residents. Material support will include food, market vouchers, clothes, etc. Practical support will include help with sewing/mending, small appliance repair, signposting around debt and finances, and specialist advice for carers.
This funding is specifically to benefit community members living in the below areas:
- Cherry Gardens
- Fountain Green Square
- Jacobs House (Peabody Trust)
- Hartley House (Peabody Trust)
- Axis Court
- Luna House
- Dixons Estate
What are the objectives of this funding?
The objectives of the funding are:
- Increased community activities providing material and practical support to Bermondsey residents and families in need
- More Bermondsey residents and families have increased access to material support: free food, free bikes and bike repairs, etc.
- More Bermondsey residents and families have increased access to practical support: advice services, sewing and repair skill workshops, etc.
What partners are Time & Talents working with because of this funding?
Time & Talents has been able to give free spaces to some wonderful community groups because of this funding, including:
Southwark Carers – an organisation that dispenses free advice once a month from the Old Mortuary
Rotherhithe Community Kitchen – an organisation that runs its weekly Rotherhithe Food Bank from the Old Mortuary
Rose Vouchers – an initiative from the Alexandra Rose Charity that helps low-income families to buy fresh fruit and vegetables.
The funding also helps us to run our monthly Repair Cafe and Bike Workshop where community members can get their small household goods and bikes fixed for free. During the sessions, community members who would like to upskill in mending things can sit with volunteers who will walk through the process. Our Bike Workshop gives away free bikes to community members who need them every month too.
What’s next?
Time & Talents is also working on securing more partners for the Bermondsey Free ‘Shops’ and Support project before the grant concludes in March of 2026.
If you live in any of the following areas, we’d love to chat with you about how we could help. Please reach out to info@timeandtalents.org.uk for more information
