More than a minibus driver….

Contract:                               64 hrs every 4 weeks –  Monday – Thursday (alternate Thursdays)

Salary:                                    London Living Wage, currently £10.55 per hour

At Time and Talents, our Older People’s programmes support over 400 lonely, isolated older people every year, giving them a place where they can feel part of a community. A vital part of this is our minibus transport service delivered across Rotherhithe, Bermondsey and Canada Water, which daily brings people to the centre for our social groups and activities.

We are now seeking a minibus driver who wants to be part of the T&T family, providing not just transport, but a strong sense of fun, friendship, and support to the people who use our services. You’ll need to be a careful, safe and experienced driver, able to physically support people with disabilities, but also a people person with a friendly, open, and caring manner.

Key responsibilities:

  • To drive older, disabled people to and from the centre or on trips
  • To help older people on and off the minibus as appropriate
  • To work as part of a team to provide emotional and physical support to service users attending Time and Talents in a sensitive and positive manner
  • To be responsible for the minibus, including preventative maintenance checks, cleanliness of vehicle, security, health and safety and compliance with the law
  • To liaise and contribute to the records of service users, reporting any issues and safeguarding concerns
  • To fully commit to T&T’s values of fun, friendship, and mutual support, including tolerance, kindness and respect for diversity.

You will need:

  • Full driving licence with D1 provision
  • Experience of driving a minibus in a community setting
  • Awareness and understanding of the needs of older and disabled people
  • A friendly open, caring manner
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • To fully commit to our values of diversity, tolerance community

Desirable

  • MIDAS qualified
  • Knowledge of Rotherhithe, Bermondsey and North Southwark

Job Description – Minibus Driver

Job Purpose

To provide a safe and friendly minibus transportation service for older people

Position in organisation

Reports To:                           Communities Activities Officer – Older People

Responsible For:                  N/A

Contract:                               64 hrs every 4 weeks –  Monday – Thursday (alternate Thursdays)

Salary:                                    London Living Wage, currently £10.55 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • To work as part of a team to provide emotional and physical support to service users attending Time and Talents in a sensitive and positive manner
  • To drive older, disabled people to and from the centre or on trips
  • To be responsible for the minibus, including preventative maintenance checks, cleanliness of vehicle, security, health and safety and compliance with the law
  • To liaise and contribute to the records of service users, reporting any issues and safeguarding concerns

Duties:

  • To attend the centre and discuss with Communities Activities Officer – Older People and minibus Escort any changes to the agreed schedule and to familiarise with any new or amended routes
  • To take responsibility for the daily checks of the vehicle, reporting issues of vehicle damage, hazards and risks or concerns to the line manager
  • To drive the minibus to and from service users’ homes, ensuring they are transported according to the agreed schedule and providing physical support to those with mobility problems
  • To assist the passengers on/off the vehicle and operating the passenger tail lift safely and to assist other staff with service users on trips
  • To contact line manager or other T&T staff if there are any delays, incidents or problems with timings at earliest opportunity
  • Be responsible for the use of the fuel card
  • To clean and maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle, both internally and externally
  • To follow the procedures for using the minibus and completing any daily logs and forms as requested by line manager
  • Adhering to the Highway code and being personally responsible for any traffic and parking violations whilst in charge of the vehicle
  • Undertaking any other driving duties consistent with the post as requested by line manager
  • To attend Older People’s team meetings as required with to discuss service users transport

General responsibilities

  • Working flexibly and at different times by arrangement with manager
  • To ensure that all appropriate T&T policies and procedures are followed through in practice, with guidance from line manager
  • To undertake general tasks at the request of the line manager in order to maximise the smooth running of T&T and its work
  • To take appropriate responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Acts and to comply with all other Time & Talents policies
  • To comply with Equal Opportunities and data protection legislation at all times
  • Any other activities as deemed appropriate by the line manager

 Person specification

  • Full driving licence with D1 provision

Following Government guidelines, we are unable to provide our usual face to face services and activities or to provide drop-in on to one support.  The safety and wellbeing of our employees, volunteers and service users remain our priority and we continue to reduce risk of transmission and ensure that unnecessary risks are not taken. This means that members of the public are not allowed to enter the Old Mortuary building or use the toilet.

We know that this is a hugely difficult time for our community, and we continue to do everything in our power to support our users and wider community.
