Ageing Cities: Video with T&T

Brilliant video featuring lots of people from our older groups and our wonderful Jeff as part of the Pan London Ageing Cities Report. People of all ages need to be listened to!

Best Halloween Yet!

The thing about Halloween is, Trick or Treating used to be a good way for neighbours to get to know each other. We don’t mean egging each other’s houses, we mean taking your little kids round door to door and saying hello. It was a sign people felt safe in their neighbourhood. That’s why we started having an an annual Halloween party – kids, families, and everyone, else, can dress up, eat so many sweets they feel sick, and get to know the neighbours. And nobody’s house has to get egged.

What a fab party this year. And we managed not to let the monsters eat anyone (well, not anyone we like)….

Black History Month at T&T

Wonderful Black History Month Activity run by Bizzie Bodies at T&T2 yesterday! Lots of fun in our Stroke club too, with volunteers making amazing food, for a group of folks who have long known Bermondsey and Rotherhithe as a very multicultural place – with a historical connection to black history in so many ways – some good, and some not so good.

World Mental Health Day: REAL Mental Health

Today is World Mental Health Day. At T&T we believe that true mental health needs community. Doctors do an amazing job – we’re lucky to have great practices like Albion Street Group Practice locally, a forward-thinking local NHS, and trusts like Guys and St Thomas’ Charity. But doctors can’t cure isolation and loneliness, or create community. It’s not their job. How could they? We know they are already stretched beyond capacity.

So alongside proper medical mental health support for people in crisis and distress, the prescription we all need is fun, friendship and mutual support. If more people felt part of a community, and the support that comes from a place where people look after each other, GPs would find their waiting lists shortening – and everyone would be much happier, and healthier – whatever ther level of need.

This is where we come in.

But anyway, what do you think?

Charity of the Year Awards 2017

A good time had by staff and T&T volunteers Haji, Alessandro, Joan and Lorraine last night at the Charity Times Awards. Congrats to British Encephalitis Trust on their success. But we think we won the ‘MOST FUN & FRIENDSHIP’ category.

Rotherhithe Dreamers: With Tate Modern

It’s finally here! The art project we worked on with Tate Modern about dreams of people in Rotherhithe has its own magazine, which has arrived! Now meeting all your ‘naked man in the Russell Hall’ and ‘Jemma posing like Jesus floating in the sky’ needs. Hurrah!!! Thanks to all the different people who got involved – all ages, all backgrounds, all welcome!
