In September 2025, a team of climbers from Peckham Police Rapid Response Team completed the Three Peaks Challenge, raising money for Time & Talents. The funds raised will be used to keep spaces free for all who need them at our weekly activities.

David Byard from Peckham Police Rapid Response Team shares how the challenge went below.

“What an incredible two days that was!

“We set off at 6.00 am on Tuesday and climbed Ben Nevis in beautiful conditions. It was a great climb, but chilly at the top!

“Sadly, we picked up two slight injuries on Nevis, which delayed us on Scafell Pike. So we arrived just behind schedule and faced climbing the last half in darkness. Over 600m we got rain and winds, and the summit was very gusty! There’s a small river crossing at the bottom, which usually has stepping stones; this became a white water rapid and was quite difficult to cross.

“We got to Snowdon just behind schedule, but we arrived with winds gusting at 70mph and driving rain. I had to hold us back as it wasn’t safe to get on the mountain.

“At first light, we set off with a smaller crew remaining to take on the third peak. The wind was still gusting over 50 mph and driving rain was at us. The paths I know quite well became rivers, and the short scrambles were waterfalls. It was the most challenging conditions I’ve ever been in on a mountain.

“Sadly, at 800m we had to concede it was not safe to head onto the ridge line for the summit, and we turned back down the Miners path.

“I hated having to turn back, but I know it was the right decision, and it would have been reckless to keep going. When we got back to the buses, the Snowdon Rangers said they would discourage any climbing in the conditions as they were.

“I’m hugely proud of my team for all the effort they put in, and the commitment and dedication were really inspiring.”

We couldn’t agree more. Thanks so much to the team for your huge efforts in tackling the Three Peaks Challenge, and for raising much-needed funds for Time & Talents.
