Local resident and friend of Time & Talents, Shamim Mansoor has had a hard time over the past few years. After the shock of being diagnosed with cancer in 2017, she had to go through the ordeal of chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. And yet, despite it all, this summer Shamim ran her first half-marathon, raising more than £300 for Time & Talents. We couldn’t be more impressed – or grateful for her generosity!
We kept in touch with her throughout her treatment, phoning up to check how she was doing. When she felt up to it, she came along to some of our groups too. But then COVID-19 hit in early 2020 and she had to shield, like many others with health conditions or weakened immune systems. She wasn’t able to work due to her health problems, so we provided her with a weekly box of food and arranged for one of our volunteer befrienders to keep in contact over the phone.
We were really happy to hear from Shamim when she got in touch recently to tell us about her brilliant run at the Vitality Big Half, and her donation to our Time & Talents community. Thank you Shamim – we wish you the very best, and lots more running!
